Fundraising & Donor Stewardship Policy
Ethical fundraising rooted in care, consent, and accountability
Purpose
This policy establishes standards for fundraising and donor stewardship at The Art of Drinking Water Foundation (“the Foundation”), ensuring that all philanthropic activity aligns with the mission, values, and ethical commitments of the organization.
Guiding Principles
- Fundraising shall honor dignity, consent, and autonomy
- Donations support mission—not influence or control
- Transparency and accountability guide all financial stewardship
- Stories and lived experiences are never exploited for funding
Contributions support reflective practice, community storytelling, and access— not extraction, pressure, or performative giving.
Sources of Funds
The Foundation may seek and accept support through:
- Individual donations
- Foundation and government grants
- Corporate sponsorships aligned with mission and values
- Fundraising events or campaigns
Gift Acceptance
- The Foundation reserves the right to decline any gift that conflicts with its mission or values
- Donations will not be accepted if they require endorsement, silence, or compromise of integrity
- Restricted gifts must be consistent with the Foundation’s purpose and capacity
Donor Intent & Use of Funds
Donor intent will be respected to the extent it aligns with the Foundation’s mission and legal obligations. Funds will be used only for approved charitable purposes.
Stewardship & Accountability
- Donors will receive timely acknowledgment of contributions
- Financial records will be maintained in accordance with governance policies
- Grant reporting requirements will be met with accuracy and care
- Impact will be communicated honestly, without exaggeration or pressure
Privacy & Confidentiality
Donor information is handled in accordance with the Foundation’s Privacy & Data Handling Policy. Donor identities and giving levels will not be shared without permission unless required by law.
Stories & Representation
Fundraising materials may reference the mission, themes, or anonymized experiences of the community, but no individual story or voice will be used without explicit consent.
Compensation & Fundraising
- The Foundation does not compensate board members for fundraising activities
- Any paid fundraising services must be approved by independent board vote
- Contingency-based fundraising compensation is prohibited
Oversight
The Board of Directors is responsible for oversight of fundraising activities and donor stewardship practices. This policy may be reviewed and updated as the organization grows.
