Job Description — Director of Community Engagement

Operational (Non-Board) Role • One-page job description

Category: Community Focus: Partnerships + Outreach Non-Board Capacity
Governance Note: If the individual serving in this operational role also holds a Board Member (At-Large) position, all board duties are voluntary and unpaid. Any operational compensation applies only to Community Engagement services and follows conflict-of-interest and recusal procedures.

Role Purpose

The Director of Community Engagement strengthens the Foundation’s visibility, relationships, and trust by cultivating authentic connections with communities, partners, and supporters. This role ensures community voices inform the work while supporting outreach that aligns with the Foundation’s tone and values.

Reports To

Board Chair / President (mission alignment) and Development Lead (for outreach priorities and partner coordination).

Time Commitment

Ongoing monthly engagement with increased activity during events, campaigns, partnership initiatives, or community activations.

Term

At-will / renewable as determined by the Board, aligned to outreach calendar and program needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain community partnerships and relationship pathways
  • Support events, outreach efforts, and public-facing initiatives
  • Serve as a bridge between community voices and Foundation leadership
  • Identify engagement opportunities aligned with mission and values
  • Share feedback on community needs, themes, and emerging opportunities

Deliverables

  • Monthly: Community Engagement Summary (short, clear update)
  • Quarterly: Partnership pipeline + outreach priorities for board discussion
  • As needed: Event support plans, outreach lists, partner follow-ups, and coordination notes

Success Measures

  • Partnerships are initiated or strengthened consistently
  • Events/outreach efforts are supported with follow-through and clear communication
  • Community insights are shared and reflected in priorities
  • Awareness grows through authentic engagement (not performative marketing)

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills and community relationship-building ability
  • Comfort coordinating outreach, events, and follow-ups
  • Ability to communicate themes and insights clearly to leadership
  • Experience in community work, advocacy, outreach, or partnership development preferred (not required)
