I didn’t realize I was drowning because I was still standing. I was still answering. Still delivering. Still being the “dependable one.”

The calendar was full, but that wasn’t the problem. The problem was how my body started bracing when the notification sound hit. How my jaw stayed clenched even when I was alone. How I couldn’t remember the last time my shoulders weren’t up near my ears.

And then one day, I forgot something small—something I never forget. Not because I didn’t care… but because I had run out of room.

That night I sat in my car and cried like the tears had been waiting in a hallway for weeks, holding their breath.

I didn’t need a new productivity system. I needed permission to be human. I needed to stop confusing my exhaustion with a character flaw.

So I did one thing that felt impossible: I left one message unanswered. I took the longest way home. I poured one glass of water and drank it slowly—like it mattered.

And for the first time in a long time, the calendar didn’t win.
